Portsmouth Ohio's roots began in the 1790's. Over time, it grew but multiple floods devastated the city in 1884, 1913, and 1937. After the 1937 food , a floodwall was built which prevented two major floods in 1964 and 1997.

In 1993, a non-profit group started a project to cover the wall with murals that portray the history of Portsmouth, Ohio from the mound building Indians to the present day, and use a 20ft. high, 2000 ft. long floodwall as a canvas. The final mural was completed in 2002.

The first photos in the gallery show some of the historic buildings near the wall. Several are in poor shape, but many are being restored.

I included many photos in this gallery because I didn't want to leave any out. Each mural is unique and should be enjoyed.
